Help for People Feeling Suicidal or at Risk of Self-Harm

We’re here to support you

If you’ve been to the Emergency Department because of your mental health, you might feel scared, alone, or unsure of what happens next. Our A&E Outreach Service at the Royal Berkshire Hospital is here to help.

Who can get support?

This service is for people who:

  • Have been to A&E for their mental health
  • Feel suicidal are at risk of self-harm
  • Need support after leaving the hospital

How it works

This service provides support for those who are at risk of self-harm or have thoughts of ending their life.

If you’re referred to us, a Safety & Wellbeing Worker will contact you within 3 working days of leaving the hospital. You can have up to 4 support sessions to help you feel safer and more in control.

  • Help you make a safety plan so you know what to do if you feel this way again
  • Support you in connecting with others so you don’t feel alone
  • Teach you ways to cope with difficult feelings
  • Help you understand and manage triggers for self-harm or suicidal thoughts
  • Find the right mental health services for your needs

Referrals will be made by the Psychological Medicine Service at Royal Berkshire Hospital.
